God’s Rescue

There is a place in our souls that only God can reach.

After processing through the five steps of connecting with someone soul-to-soul, you have begun to help heal their pain. For Christians, we know that God is the ultimate healer of the heart and soul. After all, He created them. So, we should see the five steps as an introduction to connecting to the God who heals.

The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. (Psalm 34:18)

Yes, we can sometimes help with the external circumstances that have caused pain. And, yes, we can connect soul to soul in a healing way if we are selfless and intentional about putting others’ interests before our own. But …

...the real healing of our brokenness and internal pain can only happen when we experience God’s rescue.

We were made in God’s image, so by understanding who God is and how He alone can connect to us in the deepest part of our soul, hurt, and brokenness, we open ourselves up to meaningful healing and renewal. Ultimately, the goal of living connected is to help hurting people connect with God in a meaningful way where life-changing, transformational healing can happen!

God (Jesus) came down from Heaven to connect with us and heal our broken hearts. We can help hurting people find healing when we help them connect with Jesus! (Psalm 147:3)

God placed a need for relationships in us. We need to be loved. We need to be seen, heard, cared for, and valued. We need connection and when we are disconnected, we hurt. And when tragedy happens, or when trouble comes, we tend to disconnect and grieve what’s happened to us… ALONE. It’s just the opposite of what we need.

Understanding Who God Is:

The Trinity: The threefold God … The Father, The Son (Jesus), and The Holy Spirit. All are equally God with all the same attributes. They are also distinct in their roles, yet one God. They have always existed and have enjoyed perfect fellowship and harmony … the perfect model small group. We were made in the image of God and invited into their fellowship. When we accept that invitation, we are given God’s Spirit to live in us and connect us in fellowship with Father God and Jesus.

We Were Made To Connect: Hebrews 10:25

The Bible says we have the power to bring life to one another with our words. Therefore, we have the power to rescue one another with our presence, our attention, and our words that help lead each other to a close connection with God. The Bible says in Hebrews 10 that we are to:

v.22 Draw near to God

v.23 Hold on to the hope and faith we profess

v.24 Spur one another on to love and good deeds

v.25 Connect with each other with these things in mind to encourage one another

This can happen in the aisle of the grocery store, over coffee, in small groups, or any time we have the opportunity to focus on someone else’s pain. We are called and equipped to heal one another by stirring up one another (motivating each other) to love God and love others.

French mathematician and religious philosopher Blaise Pascal rightly stated that we all have a “God-shaped emptiness” in our souls that only God can fill. We also have a people-shaped emptiness in us as well, which is why we can help heal one another. Hebrews 10:25 challenges Christians to connect with others, while listening to the Holy Spirit, and use encouraging words that stir up a desire to connect with God. To realize who He is and all that He can do

When we connect with each other in a soul-healing, selfless, others-focused way, we can begin to bring healing to each other. But there are places in our souls that are so deep that only God can reach and heal them. Therefore, God’s rescue happens when we can help hurting people come into a relationship with Him. It’s there, in that relationship, that real rescue takes place.

God of all healing … He comes alongside us when we go through hard times, and before you know it, he brings us alongside someone else who is going through hard times so that we can be there for that person just as God was there for us. We have plenty of hard times that come from following the Messiah, but no more so than the good times of his healing comfort—we get a full measure of that, too.

~ 2 Corinthians 1:3-5 (The Message)

God is the only one who sees it all, understands it all, and Can Change It All, externally and internally.

This is the hope and encouragement that we have to offer people who need healing. We have the power to help people heal when we connect at the soul, then help them connect with the God who Heals (Jehovah Rapha).
